Insider Tips for Your Summer in Arolla

Garden concerts, terrace barbecues, stay packages and outings close to the glaciers: our tips for a successful slow summer at the Grand Hôtel & Kurhaus.

The hotel garden in summer, facing Mont-Collon

Summer in Arolla is not planned to the minute: it is lived. But a few good habits are enough to make the most of it, between the hotel table, the trails that leave from the garden, and the season’s convivial gatherings. Here are our tips, gathered over the summers, for a stay as close to the mountain as possible.

Choose the right stay package

Rather than a single night, summer is best savoured over time. Our multi-night, half-board packages give you the time to settle in: a day of walking, a day of rest, a day of discovery. It is the best way to enter Arolla’s rhythm — and often the most rewarding value. Expect our stay packages to run around 650 to 690 CHF depending on room and length.

Take up the e-bike

The e-bike has changed the way you see the valley: it brings the high pastures closer without forcing the effort. From village to alpage, the loops fit a half-day. Rental is booked at reception, from 95 CHF for a half-day and 130 CHF for a full day. A helmet, a water bottle, and the mountain opens up further than your legs alone would carry you.

Enjoy the season’s gatherings

Summer at the Kurhaus is punctuated by moments not to be missed: the alphorn at the opening, the herd’s climb to the alpage, garden concerts, open-air barbecues and the 1 August brunch. The table renews itself too: a more contemporary menu, valley produce and revisited classics, to be tasted at L’Honorine or on the terrace facing Mont-Collon.

Keep time to do nothing

The best tip of all may be the opposite of every other: a morning with no programme, a forest bath, a book on the terrace. A spa massage (from 110 CHF) extends the calm after a day’s walking. Here, the art of living lies as much in what you do as in what you allow yourself not to do.

A good summer in Arolla is a balance: enough walking to feel alive, enough pauses to feel well. The mountain takes care of the rest.
