Arolla by Bike: E-Bike & MTB

The electric bike has changed our relationship with the mountains: it is a new kind of mobility, one that lets you take your time while going faster and further. In Arolla, it smooths out the climbs that once put people off and brings the high pastures closer — without taking away the pleasure of the effort. From village to alpage, on two wheels: here is how we ride.

Open to everyone

Electric assistance opens the mountains to the greatest number: to the young in search of adventure, to groups of friends out together, and to walkers who want to take in the landscape while keeping fit. You set the level of assistance, find your rhythm — and everyone rides to their own measure.

Two bikes, two moods

The hotel offers two day-rental options, depending on the spirit of your outing:

• The Contemplative (CHF 95): to wander from village to alpage, stop at the viewpoints and savour the slowness.
• The Sporty (CHF 130): more committed, to take on the climbs and push higher up the valley.

Helmet, electric charging, a secure bike store and a repair kit are available at the Jardin des Arolles. For routes and guided outings, the hotel works with the cycling providers of the Évolène region.

Le Chouillu, our terroir picnic

Our favourite route climbs to a mountain pasture, a balcony open onto Mont-Collon and the glaciers. You ride up in the morning with Le Chouillu — our picnic of local produce — tucked in the bag, and settle there facing the peaks before freewheeling back down. It is short, it is beautiful, and it is the essence of a day on the bike in Arolla.
