As winter approaches, Arolla prepares to live its finest white season. At the Grand Hôtel & Kurhaus, we take it to heart to let you relive the Belle Époque mountain adventure — that of the first guests who came here in search of pure air, snow and the great silence of the summits. Here is what awaits you this season.

For thrill-seekers

Arolla is freeride and off-piste country, where the powder lasts a long time. To venture out safely, it is best to have a companion who knows the mountain. Thrill-seekers can also take off paragliding above the snow-covered valley, or try ice climbing with a guide — a spectacular discipline for which the valley offers a few fine lines.

For walkers

Snow is not reserved for skiers. On snowshoes, guided or not, you reach the frozen Blue Lake, cross the larch and arolla forest, follow the Borgne along a winter trail. These outings, within everyone’s reach, remain one of the finest ways to taste the calm of a high-altitude winter.

For the contemplative

And then there are those who come to rest. For them, the spa and its massage (from 110 CHF), the lounge and its fireplace, the library and its deep armchairs. Winter at the Kurhaus is also lived indoors, at the pace of fire and tea, while the snow falls behind the windows.

At the table, the spirit of the valley

In the evening, the table of L’Honorine gathers everyone around the flavours of the valley: fondue, raclette, seasonal dishes and local produce. Half-board closes the day as it should — warmly, without fuss, facing the summits as they fall asleep.
